World Champion Markus Wieser wins 6 Metre Sterling Cup in Glücksburg/Germany
A fantastic racing weekend was organized by Oliver Berking and BMW in Flensburg and Glücksburg/Germany on the weekend of August the 10th -12th 2012. 12, 8 and 6 Metre Classics were invited, and the the Twelves and Sixes showed up with 6 boats each, while the Eights were limited to 3, due to the World Cup just finished the week before in Cowes, UK.
While the 12 Metres had a thriller-like race, only decided on the last course for the local hero, Abeking & Rasmussen "Sphinx" (1939), the 6 Metre race was dominated by World Champion and top professional Markus Wieser and his BMW-Crew. Provided with Oliver Berking's personal 6 Metre "Lillevi", Wieser won all races (but the last), although claiming that he had not been on a 6 ever before and did not have time to practice!
The fight for the 2nd place was essentially held between Björn Storsberg's Aida, Joachim Wolter's Mellum and Thomas Kuhmann's Mena. In the last race, Mena was able to collect enough points to come out 2nd overall, followed by Mellum. In the 8 Metres, the winner was the Canadian "Raven".
The first time that BMW entered the Classic Metre Class scene was a tremendous success and gives hope for their continuing support for the Worlds next year in Flensburg, based on Oliver Berking's excellent preparation, warm welcome and great weather, offering high winds on the first day, and low to moderate ones during the rest of the weekend.
Flensburg/Glücksburg are ready to host our World Cup next year!
(Dr. Thomas Kuhmann)

30 August - 2 September 2012 QCNC Queen Christina Nations Cup
The Queen Christina Nations Cup 2012 will be sailed in Espoo, Finland on 30 August - 2 September.
The host club will be ESF - Esbo Segelförening, whose commodore, Lauri Tukiainen is the owner of 6mR Boree IV (FIN-70).
We welcome all Six Metre nations to the event, more details of the regatta will be placed on the FinSMA website, www.6mr.fi, shortly!
The location is the same as for the first QCNC hosted by Finland some years ago: http://www.esbosegelforening.fi/karta-till-amiralshamnen.html
The closest airport is Helsinki International and guests will be accommodated in summer villas & homes of the local Six Metre enthusiasts nearby and possibly onboard yachts at the club.
Due to a hacking operation into my Yahoo mail late last year, I have lost all correspondence with 2011 QCNC organizers and participating teams. I would be grateful, if someone could fwd this message to that audience and copy me to the email. And please speed the word on your websites and emails.
Safe sailing!
Many thanks,
Eero / FinSMA / eerolehtinen@yahoo.co.uk
